Wellington, located in Palm Beach County, Florida, has become the most recent municipality to pass a human rights or civil rights ordinance.
Wellington’s ordinance incorporates the Palm Beach County Equal Employment Ordinance which provides both an administrative remedy as well as a private right of action for aggrieved employees.
Employers doing business in Wellington will need to make sure their Human Resources policies and procedures are updated to include protections for the expanded protected categories provided in Wellington’s new ordinance which includes: race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, familial status, pregnancy, marital status, genetic information, sexual orientation or gender identity or expression.
